Frequently Asked Questions

How do I apply?

Assist Wireless makes applying for free government phone plans in Missouri easy. Select the Assist Wireless online enrollment platform and complete the step-by-step application form at your convenience.

Ensure you complete every section relevant to you. The most common reason why Lifeline applications are denied is providing incomplete information.

If you need additional help obtaining a free phone, Missouri residents can browse additional FAQs or call our main number (855) 392-7747. A member of our team can file your application on your behalf and provide further guidance on the supporting documentation needed for your application.

How do I check my application status?

Assist Wireless will provide instant updates whenever your application is approved/denied. Processing times vary based on demand, but most applicants will see their applications approved in five business days.

The Assist Wireless customer support team is always available to answer any questions relating to the current status of your application.

How do I prove my eligibility for Missouri free government phone service?

If you’re submitting a new application, expect to provide proof of your eligibility. If you are applying with proof that you are a member of a government assistance program, ensure you send a copy of a statement of benefits.

For example, you can submit  a Social Security benefits statement or a Veterans Administration benefits statement. Assist Wireless can provide further support in determining acceptable types of documentation.

If you choose to apply based on your household income, include a copy of your previous state or federal tax return. You can also submit pay stubs from three consecutive months, as long as these pay stubs are all from the previous 12 months.

If submitting physical documentation, always submit copies of any documents, as these will not be returned to you.

Please continue to check our website for updates on eligibility and application resources.

Can I appeal if my application for free monthly cell phone service is denied?

Sometimes, when submitting an application for a free government phone plan, Missouri residents are denied. The most common reasons include incomplete applications and unclear photographs. The Assist Wireless online enrollment system is designed to streamline the process of applying for your Lifeline benefits.

We also provide several retail locations to support you in completing your application and maximizing your chances of success. Note that if you fail to meet the basic requirements of either qualifying pathway, you cannot be approved for free service or for a free phone in Missouri.

If your application is denied, you may submit another application for free government phone service in Missouri at a later date.

How often do I need to recertify for free government phone service in Missouri?

Lifeline benefits are not guaranteed benefits. Households often fall out of the program because their income grows or they no longer qualify for government assistance. In either of these scenarios, your Lifeline service will be disconnected 60 days after your recertification date.

Your recertification date is exactly one year following your activation date. You may also be disconnected from the service if you fail to use your Lifeline device at least once per month. In this situation, you will receive a 15-day notice before you are disconnected.

Recertification is relatively simple. Assist Wireless, a company specializing in Lifeline services, will contact you about recertifying with detailed instructions on what you need to do to avoid seeing your service disconnected. Essentially, you will need to prove that you are still qualified to receive a free government phone plan in Missouri

You have 60 days following recertification to complete all the necessary steps to maintain your Lifeline benefits.

Can I reapply if I lose my Lifeline benefits?

Yes! Many individuals and families enter and leave the program more than once. Your previous history with Lifeline has no bearing on any future applications. You simply need to reapply to determine if you’re eligible for benefits again.
